Statement on Slavery and Human Trafficking

This is the first statement by Hastings Group Holdings plc (“HGH”) as the parent company of the Hastings Group (the “Group”) made pursuant to section 54(6) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It constitutes the Group’s slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending on 31 December 2017.

Our commitment
We will not tolerate slavery and human trafficking within our business and supply chain. We are committed to acting responsibly in business relationships and ensuring that slavery and human trafficking does not occur within the Group. We will also require that our suppliers and business partners take the necessary steps to tackle slavery and human trafficking.

Our structure and business
We are a general insurance provider offering products and services to the UK retail insurance market, specifically car, van, motorbike and home insurance products. We have two trading businesses, an insurance broker based in Sussex, Hastings Insurance Services Limited, trading as Hastings Direct, and an insurer, Advantage Insurance Company Limited, based in Gibraltar. Further details of the organisation’s structure can be found at

Our business model focusses on providing general insurance products to customers in the UK only via price comparison websites and over the telephone. We support, and are committed to, the welfare of all of our colleagues in terms of pay, working hours, environment and health and safety and wellbeing. We do not expect, and will not tolerate, violations of basic human rights or UK employment practices by any colleague or within our supply chain.

Our approach
To tackle slavery and human trafficking, we include appropriate measures in our due diligence processes for sourcing suppliers and business partners on a risk assessed basis and we ensure all of our colleagues are aware of our Whistleblowing Policy and are provided with appropriate training on how to report incidents should they become aware of them.

This statement has been approved by the HGH Board on behalf of the Group on 27 February 2018.
